Como Te Explico... No Hay Cualto LOL
Dominican Translation: How do I explain this to you... THERE IS NO CASHH -_-
Cualto (Dominican campesino Talk) = Cash lol
I definitely had a little trouble managing my money when I got here, especially when it came to getting used to the currency. US$1 = RD$40 (estimate). You can literally spend 100 dollars in a week -_- yikes. I had to learn a couple things along the way:
- I learned the rates are higher in Caribe Tours which is a transport/import/export company. You can send money from the US to the DR through here this company and they will bring you the money to your house. There are days where US$1 = RD$42 there compared to the bank which will be the typical RD$40 for 1 dollar. I don't know about you but I would try to find the best rate for my money lol They are also conveniently located near UNIBE. If you don't have an account at a bank and you want to change money, you will be asked for a cedula (equivalent to social security in the US). If you don't have one, you can show your passport. There's also a Banco BHD (a Dominican bank) on campus, so if you have an emergency, you can change money there. :)
- I save all of my receipts in an archive. It doesn't matter if I spent RD$5 lol, I need to be sure of what I'm spending my money on. Once I see all the receipts pile up, I'm like okay slow down lol
- Lastly, I recently downloaded an app on my phone called Quick Money for Android. I love it so much. It's free and every time I spend money, I enter the amount details and I can also see a graph telling me the percentage of how much I'm spending and in what department, for example, food out, school, at the mall, etc. Quick Money App Link
Happy Spending lol
